What inspires you

I take a lot of walks. On a walk you have the time to really look at things, to peek in people's windows and see what they are watching on TV. Sometimes I’ll be strolling along and walk face first into an idea. Blammo! The good ideas give you a hand up and help you pick up the groceries you lost in the street. Those are the ideas you take home and make dinner.

What do you look for in a game as a player? As a designer?

My player brain and designer brain might as well live in different skulls. When I’m playing a game I crave wild adventure, running around, exploring. I want to take it out and kick it over. When I’m designing a game I’m much quieter, introspective. I make games that try to engage players in ways that are unexpected. I would like to think that my players make some discoveries about what entertains them when they play my games. Ultimately I try to make games that people who don’t play games enjoy.

If you could play a game with anyone (living or dead) who would it be, what game, and why?

Lacuna with David Cronenberg. Sorensen wrote a beautiful love song to a brilliant director, I’d love to take a spin in whatever hideous world he makes Blue City.
